WigWag: Helping You Create An Automated Smart Home

At a time when everything in technology is becoming ‘smart’, Kickstarter-funded WigWag wants to transform our homes in to an automated, responsive environment by connecting our smart technology with their small sensory device. I use the word responsive for a reason; WigWag uses an IFTTT (If This, Then That) system, where you create simple ‘rules’ using a visual interface that makes things happen automatically (see image below).

If you look around, the transition towards a smart home has already started with smart TVs and remote central heating that are controllable by smartphones; but it’s all too disjointed. With that in mind, WigWag’s founder Ed Hemphill wants to create an interconnected home by making our tech essentially talk to each other and making it controllable with one single thing; our phones.

In the Kickstarter video below, Hemphill makes a really good point; that our cars are so sophisticated with sensors, yet our homes have so few. You see, creating a smart home requires us to bridge the gap between our different technologies and how they communicate, and the example in the video where the light turns on when entering the room rather than flipping a switch, is a perfect example of automated technology working seamlessly to create a ‘smart home’.

Potential

There’s already been an early adoption of smart gadgets and now that there’s something to unify them together – it’ll be interesting to see how soon our homes will become technologically automated. Whether it’s for the sake of energy efficiency, safety, for show or downright laziness – WigWag may well be leading the first steps to futuristic homes.

Is it a tempting thought to have an automated smart home that’s responsive to pre-written ‘rules’? Leave your thoughts in the comments below and share this article if you liked it!
