With the Moto G lineup Motorolla has produced one of the best low-cost smartphones of recent years, and today, the company announced their 4th generation model. There’s also a Moto G4 Plus now, which is essentially a more powerful (but same sized) model.

So what do you get for the £169 asking price?
Motorolla have packed in a full HD display, 1.5GHz octacore Snapdragon 617 processor, 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage, which is pretty standard for a phone at the price point.
It’s nice to see a 3000 mAh battery on there, and with Motorolla’s fast charging technology TurboPower you can supposedly get six hours of power in just 15 minutes. Like so many smartphone manufacturers nowadays, Motorolla are really pushing on the camera on this phone with a 13MP rear camera for “crystal-clear, share-worthy pics” along with a 5MP front facing shooter. As usual, you’ll be able to style your phone using Motorolla’s Moto Maker too.
Moto G4 Plus: The bigger brother
Moving onto the bigger brother costing £199, the Moto G4 Plus includes many of the same features except an even better 16MP camera with “two additional rapid focus technologies, laser focus and phase detect autofocus that work quickly so you always nab sharp, clear pictures, day and night”. According to the video below, there’s also a wide angle lens which is a nice addition.
Oddly for a smartphone called ‘Plus’ it isn’t any bigger in size, but considering the Moto G4 is already 5.5 inches that’s fair enough.
There’s also the option of buying a more powerful version with 3GB RAM/32GB storage, and interestingly the Moto G4 Plus also packs a fingerprint sensor — a feature finding its way into mid-range smartphones recently.
