Gaming With The Acer Switch 11 V Convertible Laptop

Although I’m not what you’d call a “diehard” gamer, I do enjoy picking up my tablet for a wind-down game or two every other evening. With the Acer Switch 11 V here, I’ve been able to have a work machine that can double as a play device too – so here’s how I’ve found it.

How it feels in the hand

The Acer Switch 11 V’s weight feels nicely distributed in the hand, and coming from an iPad Air, it doesn’t feel all that much heavier to hold – despite being thicker and feeling denser. When you take into account the various ports Acer has included on this thing like full sized USB port, micro USB and micro HDMI too, it’s certainly worth any added weight anyway.

Getting a little hot…

Weight isn’t a huge deal, but overheating can be. The Acer Switch 11 V tends to get rather hot on the left side and while it isn’t overwhelming or even annoying, it’s certainly noticeable after 5-10 minutes of holding the tablet.

Solid performance

In terms of performance I’ve been really happy with how the Acer Switch 11 V handles itself. Games like OverKill 3 and Asphalt 8 run smoothly with no stuttering to speak of, graphics look great on this full HD 1080p display and thanks to those front-facing speakers, you get a really nice gaming experience from it.

Being able to quickly switch between work and play has been a big bonus for me. Where I’ll typically need to jump from a MacBook to an iPad in order to make that same transition, the Acer Switch 11 V makes it a smooth experience – just plug the tablet into the keyboard and you’re ready to do some work.

Average battery life

Battery life hasn’t been as impressive as I had hoped. Average use gets you around 4 odd hours with normal use, however gaming brings that number down slightly.

Of course it will fluctuate depending on brightness levels and how many other apps you have opened in the background, but for a device that’s meant to be for work and play, I hoped for it to handle battery life better.

Nice quality sound

Lastly, the Acer Switch 11 V packs some impressive speakers that make any movie-watching and gaming a really nice experience. They’re front facing speakers that sound loud, clear and are placed at the bottom of the device.

Is it any good?

Yeah! Although battery life could be better, a nice HD display paired with great speakers make the Acer Switch 11 V a great laptop/tablet convertible to game with.
