Since Motorola’s return back into the limelight with their smartphones and smartwatch, they have mainly focused on delivering a phone with an affordable price tag that’s accessible for most people. Following on from the Moto G, their brand new phone, the Moto E (released at today’s event in London and Delhi) is by far the cheapest as of yet.
Usually a phone coming in at such a cheap price tag means that many cutbacks have to be made, however on the whole things seem to have maintained Motorola’s standard, even in terms of design.
The Moto E has a very similar shape to both the Moto X and G, and there’s even that familiar dip on the back which contains the Motorola “M” logo.
Even down to the OS, the Moto E does not fail to follow the Motorola trend. At release the phone will be shipping with Android 4.4.2 KitKat and Motorola states that updates of the OS are guaranteed. Since it does run close to stock Android, pushing out updates when they release will take no time at all.
When purchased, the Moto E will come in just black or white. However since the backplate is interchangeable, Motorola will have nine different colour varients on sale (black, white, purple, green pink, blue, turquoise, yellow and red). We’re sure that 3rd party options will soon also be available online as well.
Motorola released a video on their Motorola Mobility YouTube channel demonstrating how to remove the backplate on both the the Moto E and Moto G.
